The association is specifically designed for students and researchers at both academic and industrial institutions, supporting interdisciplinary approaches to voice communication sciences (VoCS). It brings together scholars from disciplines such as acoustics, biology, cognitive neuroscience, computing science, linguistics, phonetics, psychology, physics and others. While voice communication is primarily viewed as a human phenomenon, it is also studied in animals that use vocalizations for communicative interactions (e.g., individual recognition, emotion recognition, etc.).
Voice communication sciences have a broad range of applications, including human-machine interaction, healthcare, and forensic voice analysis. The network aims to connect members from academia and industry, facilitating collaboration and the translation of novel theoretical approaches into practical solutions.
Specifically, VoCSA will organize a biannual conference (Voice-ID), publish a dedicated journal (VoCS Journal), and contribute to educating the next generation of academics through initiatives such as the EU-funded VoCS doctoral school and regular VoCS summer schools organized by its members.
VoCSA consists of an international community of individuals, academic and industrial institutions with an interest in voice communication sciences and an interest in networking across institutions and participating in common events and initiatives.
VoCSA organises a conference at least every two years for the community to discuss major results and provide networking options, in particular between academia and industry. The fundamental idea of Voice-ID is to bring together researchers of different expertise level from a wide spectrum of disciplines working on the communication with voice from different points of view, with different methods, approaches and paradigms. VoCSA aims at making the conference as inter-disciplinary as possible.

VoCSA supports their members in organising educational events such as summer schools, seminar or lecture series or online events in the area of voice communication sciences. VoCSA supports such events with monetary contributions.

The Voice Communication Sciences (VoCS) project is an ambitious initiative designed to establish Europe as a leading force in voice research.
Funded through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Networks under the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Programme, the project provides comprehensive information about its activities and goals on its main webpage.
VoCS brings together 22 academic and industry partners from 12 countries, working collaboratively to educate a new generation of researchers with broad, cross-disciplinary expertise in the field of voice science. VoCS main mission is to prepare 19 doctoral researchers with a unified understanding of cognitive neuroscience, acoustics, phonetics, and computer science. This is achieved through a distinctive blend of laboratory-based research experience and cross-sector workshops that cover essential scientific, technological, and clinical aspects of voice communication.
